IMDB says that Nicollette Sheridan’s name at birth was actually Colette. She was born in England in 1963 to actress, Sally Sheridan. Her parents divorced before she even knew her father and when her mom later had a romance and son (named Nicholas) with American actor, Telly Savalas, he took on the role of her step-father. Maybe she added the Ni- prefix to make her name like her brother’s but where’d that extra ‘L’ come from?
Wherever it came from, Nicollette made quite a splash in the 1980s as Paige Matheson on the night time soap Knots Landing, a seductress who immediately went to work on the best friend (Greg Sumner played by William DeVane) of her daddy (Mack MacKenzie played by Kevin Dobson), despite their age difference. A series regular by the 1988-89 season, Nicollette won the 1990 Soap Opera Digest Award for “Outstanding Lead Actress: Prime Time” and the 1991 Soap Opera Digest Award for “Outstanding Heroine: Prime Time”. She was one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” in 1991, gracing the cover of TV Guide and many other fan mags.
In 2004, the actress returned to the small screen as Edie Britt in ABC’s Desperate Housewives brought her renewed media attention. For her effort, Sheridan got a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2005. Sheridan’s character was killed off in the series in April of 2009.
Nicollette’s most well-known romances were with actor Harry Hamlin and singer Michael Bolton. She was married to Hamlin from 1991 to 1993. Her on-again off-again relationship with Bolton led to an engagement announcement in March 2006, but they eventually split up in 2008.
